Abstract

The aim of this work is to know the residents perception about the costs associated with holding a sporting event. A survey was passed to 327 residents in the city of Valencia with 11 items related to possible costs derived from the celebration of the Valencia Open 500 tennis. An exploratory factor analysis and then a confirmatory factor analysis in order to check the validity of the scale was made. The results showed a final scale of nine items distributed in three dimensions: social costs, environmental costs and economic costs. Residents consider that this event has not led to high costs for social or environmental level, although it has had impact in economic terms. Statistically significant differences in terms of attendance at the event, support for the celebration and sociodemographic variables related to gender, age, occupation and income level were found
